This quarter Mr. Berquist gave us a big project to complete. It was to make a claymation about a European explorer we read a book about. The European explorer I chose to read about was Sir Ernest Shackleton. He was a European explorer from the early 1900's. He and his crew took off to Antarctica on a ship named Endurance. We also had a choice too pick partners if we chose to. I chose my friend Cameron because I thought that we would work well together.
The most enjoyable part of the project was after taking the picture for the claymation. That was definitely my favorite part of the project because it was fun to do the voice overs of the characters that we took pictures of. We also got to watch our scenes in a more fluent type of way, rather than flipping though pictures on a camera. I also liked making music for the scenes. Cameron and I opened up Garage Band and picked out a really good beat and added some strings to mix it up. The final project came out really well. I was also trying to out do Chase, who used to have a song on Cameron and I 's claymation. Before each scene started we had to put a title saying what scene it was. it was fun to experiment to see what different kinds of effects we could put on the titles. Another thing I had fun doing was our scene four. In scene four Cameron and I made our characters shoot a seal in the head. It was fun because we made a harpoon gun and shoot the seal and blood came out everywhere. we made the harpoon gun by putting a tooth pick into a piece of clay. It looked pretty good. That was my favorite scene.
The hardest part of this claymation project was moving the clay men inch by inch. It was so hard because if you moved it to much the scene would look bad. If you moved it to little it would take way to long. It was also sometimes really frustrating because sometimes the men would fall over and you would have to find exactly where they fell over or the scene would look bad. After a while the clay men's arms started to get ruined. We had to make them new arms after the first couple of scenes. Another hard part of the claymation was making the backgrounds. I just really don't like coloring.
The most important thing I learned while doing this project was keeping my materials organized. I think this was so important was because when all the materials got messed up it was harder to get work done. After the fourth scene the materials were mostly ruined so we were limited to the things we could do. In my materails bag it was just a mess. When the clay got ruined we could not use it anymore. One thing Cameron and I made sure didn't get ruined was the clay men. Because if the clay men got ruined than we would have to make new ones, and that would be really bad.
Overall I liked this project. I liked this project because it was fun to be creative with the clay. It was also fun to work with the fun technology to make our claymation look better. It got old after a while to have to take all those pictures though. It was really coll to see the final project.
This year I tried out for the 8th grade basketball team. This year 22 kids tried out for the basketball team. Last year only 17 kids tried out. So I thought there was going to be a lot of cuts. This year there was a twist on cuts. Sence so many kids tried out there was no cuts. For me this was really weird. I thought I had a chance to make the team, and I did, but so did everyone else. Our practices were really tough at the beginng. They seem to be getting easier. Mostly because I getting in better shape, but we are having more time to run plays in practice too. The position I play is 1,2 and somtimes 3. 1 is like a point guard. 2 is a shooting gaurd, and 3 is like a shooting foward. My favorite is 2 because I get to dribble a ot and I get to shoot to. Last year I was playing 4(like a post), but then coach found out that I could dribble really well. Then he let me play 1. Our record last year was 6-4. We lost to Lakewood and kings twice. This year I think that we willl do very well. Maybe we'll go 8-2. Our first game will be against Coupevile. hopefuly we will win. Last year we only played them once and we won. Come and watch us.
I have a lot of different interests. One of my biggest interests are sports. I love watching, playing, and learning new sports. My favorite sorts are basketball, soccer golf, skateboarding, snowboarding, and dodge ball. I think I am best at basketball. Another big interests is in music. I really like rap. My favorite artists are Jay-Z, and Lil Wayne. My favorite song is Mr. Carter. I also love snowboarding. I have only gone once but it is so much fun. this year I'm going five days in a row. This year I'm planning to go to park City. I is one of the best Snow resorts in The U.S. I got to go to Park City in the summer time this year. I rode on a plexi galss enclosed chair lift up to the top of one of many Ski loges that are twice as big as mansions. IN he middle of July there was still some snow up at the top. In the winter time I also go snowmobiling. I t is really fun. It's like riding a dirt bike in the snow, they are really unstable. This year I crashed one into a big snow bank after driving across a pond. I think the winter is my favorite season, Summer is too. Another one of my intrests are video games. Right now I have a Playstation 2. It's o.k. but I want an Xbox 360. My favorite games are Madden and NBA live. I also like Midnight Club 3, it's an awsome racing game. Hey Mr. B Idid this October 21.
last Sunday I went on a trip for adventure ed. out to the Washington coast. The bus ride was an amazing 6 hours. When we got there we started to hike. We went on a hike through the forest on a board walk for three miles. When we got to camp we set up our tent and ate. That day we went on a second hike and we saw a dead whale. The next day it was poring down rain and we hiked 5+ miles. We set up camp up on A big bluff. The next morning we got up and it was really good weather. That day we were going on our longest hike, 6+ miles !!!! it was my favorite day because it was the best weather. When we got to camp We set up our tents and ate dinner. We also picked and ate muscles. The muscles were pretty good. We got up the next morning and the weather was pretty good. today the was 5 miles. Half way though the day it started to rain. That's when it stated to get miserable. We got to camp wet and tiered. We tried to make a fire but it was not the great. the next morning was the very last day and I was a little bit excited to leave in the morning. The hike was 4+ miles that day and it was drizzling. I was happy to get on the bus. On the way home we stopped at McDonald's and ate.
As you can see This is a graph of my life. One thing that happened to me that i put on my life graph was that I broke a window to get into my own house. I rated that as a -1. I broke a window to get into my house because I forgot to put a house key into my backpack and the garage door opener wasn't working. I also had to go pee really bad. So, I walked around my house several times to try and find a opening into the house. I couldn't find anything. So I decided to get a board and smash it against the garage window on the side of my house. I found a giant board and hit the window. the first time nothing happened . So the second time I hit it harder. As soon as I hit the window it shattered. Now for the hard part. I had to crawl through the window and not get cut. It was really hard because I'm pretty big. As soon as I was through I ran inside and started playing video games. When my mom got home a couple hours later, she came in the house all freaked out. she asked me if I had heard something come through the window and I said no. I was feeling pretty smart because I made it look like the board had fallen through the window. I had actually got out of trouble my mom believed me. Later om a couple months later mom knew that i had broken the window. Luckily she wasn't mad because it happened so long ago.
This summer I went camping up in the Uinta Mountains in Utah. I went with my family and Grandma and Grandpa. They own a cabin up there. One thing we did up there was we went fishing at Whitney reservoir. it was really pretty up there. We had no luck fishing there so we went to a different lake called Beaver lake. I caught one fish there. Another thing we did up there was We did a lot of ATVing. We went on one really long ride to Lilly Lake were I caught one Rainbow Trout. The trail getting there was extremely bumpy. Sometimes I had to drive the ATV of huge rocks and boulders. We also had some really big fires. It took my cousin and I hours to haul all the wood down from where we cut a tree down. One shorter trip we took on the ATVs was one to river. when we got to the river we drove the ATV really fast through the water. I got soaking wet, but it was really fun. In my spare time up at the cabin I set up a shooting rage for my pellet gun. I put up a squirrel target and some cans to shoot at. that summer I got really good at shooting. We also brought up a bow an arrow to shoot at a bag. The problem was that I couldn't pull the string back very easily so I couldn't shoot it very well. Every summer I go up there and have lots of fun. I can't wait to go up next year.
This summer I started playing golf. At first I was horrible, I couldn't even hit the ball. I had my first lesson back in July this summer. My instructor was trying to help me hit the ball but I just couldn't do it. That same day I started driving the ball 200 yards!!! I was having trouble hitting it strait though. So at my local driving range I've been practicing my hit every weekend. Now I'm pretty consistent. so I decided to play my first game. It was a great game, it took only 4 or 5 hits on a 9 hole par 3 course, I was feeling great about my golf game. So the next weekend I played another golf game. I was feeling very confident that I was going to do great. Already on my first hole I hit the ball 9 times. On one hole I almost hit someone teeing off 200 yards away!!! After a horrible day of golf I felt very discouraged. My most recent golf was definitely my best. I had one par and I got my best score every. I seem to be improving every time I go now. One thing i=I need to work on the most is my putting. Putting is one of the hardest parts of golf. You have to able to tll wich way a ball will break on certain slopes. The long game of golf is impresive, but the short game wins games.
Early this September my grandpa and I went fishing. We were fishing for some pink salmon. After getting our fishing licenses we set out to go fishing at Bush Point. We got to the beach at 3:00 p.m. After about 20 casts I had a bite, my adrenaline started pumping I was reeling the fish in as fast as I could. When the fish came out of the water it was a small 7 inch long Saltwater Catfish. My grandpa let the Small Catfish of the hook. Early that same morning my grandpa and I were at the beach and saw a man on the dock catch a nice salmon off the dock. He caught it by the tail and had to let it go. A couple of minutes later My grandpa had a fish on his hook. He reeled the fish in and, it was a Catfish. It was very disappointing that day to go home without any fish. The next morning we were up early and looking forward to catching a big salmon. Again, after along day of fishing we came up empty handed. Our very last day of fishing was the day before school started. It was our last chance to catch a salmon. We were about ready to go when my grandpa felt a strong tug on the line. He reeled the fish in real. I was so happy to see a fish on the line . It turned out to be a Saltwater Catfish. A big one, but we let it go. Overall my grandpa and I fished for 11 hours. I was so discouraged. but this October i'm going salmon fishing again.
